What specifically are you asking for? The question seems to be a little broad. You may want to be more specific with what you are asking for. Just a suggestion, that might help you get answers.

Re: Routine and non-routine activities help please

Thanks for such quick reply. First of all Im not originaly an English speaker and Im new in implementing OHSAS 18001. What I really need is to know how to determine non-routine activities. Or maybe we should go from the basics, what is the diferences between these two and how far should I go with determining non routine activities, do I take routines out side workplace?

Thank you once again and sorry for bad English

First, don't worry about your English it seems fine.

Now that you have a more specific question, someone will most likely be able to help you.

I am sorry but this is not my area of expertise. Be patient and someone will be able to help.

I have also changed your Thread Title to be able to provide a more specific Title.

Coury is right on many things and your English being good is one of them.

The idea of this clause is for the organization to consider all activities that might pose a risk to people, not just the regular day to day work. A couple of examples might help:
  • If you are in a factory and a machine needs a repair this is not part of the routine operations (maintenance might be considered routine even if it doesn't happen every day) - now you need to decide how you are going to go about fixing the machine and are you going to introduce new risks (like lifting some machine parts either by hand or with lifting equipment)
  • If you decide to build an extension to your office building - you may bring in contractors to do the work and there will be new risks associated with construction that need to be assessed by both your contractor and by you.
  • You decide to hold an open day and invite people to your facility - there will be risks associated with any activities that you lay on for your visitors and you will have many people on site who are not familiar with your premises.

These are just some examples. In your system you need to have some way of highlighting any new activities and ensure they are assessed and the risks managed.
