Hi folks,
As per API Q1 requirement, We made a procedure for training and awareness, in that we defined the requirement of API Q1. But API did not say anything about the frequency of evalution of effectiveness. we set it as 30 days after training. But now my Operation Manager is saying to change is 7 days. Now question is how can i conveneince him that 30 days is appropriate?

You want people doing stuff for 30 days and not be sure that they know what they are doing?

To me, depending on the situation, 7 days to verify competence is too much.

Would you get on an airline flight with a flight crew that did their training only yesterday and their competence check is still 7-30 days away? One doesn't have to be overly smart to figure out how bad an idea that would be.

Re-evaulate to process and toss some risk planning into it.

Deepak, minimum 3 months would be ideal period to verify the effectiveness of the trainings. 7 or 30 days will be too short.

OK so you'd be willing to fly commercial before the flight crew has been verified as being able to actually fly and fly safely?

@Dharmaraj Ganesan - what do you base this time frame on?
In my experience the time frame depends on the type of training and the severity of getting it wrong. Training to revisions of work instructions can take a few minutes - supervisors can observe that the new procedure is being followed. Severe outcomes can be observed for however long it is deemed necessary starting immediately after the training. (such as Randy’s example). For some engineering training on technical procedures active continual monitoring (and for some things coaching) occurs for as long as necessary to establish proficiency. Like Corrective actions there is no one size fits all tiem frame - in my experience.
