Starting to get Involved
Hello,
Our company is developing a non-medical device (used in a light commercial environment) which we are intending to have tested to BS EN 60335‑1:2012+A15:2021.
The device is double insulated and powered by a removable mains external power supply, outputting 24V DC (pretty much identical to a laptop power supply).
The power supply is not custom, and is UKCA and CE marked.
The device is intended to be supplied with said power supply.
The device does not have a battery and can only run using the power supply.
I believe the power supply is appliance class II as it is double insulated, etc.
My understanding is that the device would be class III as the power source is SELV according to the standard's definition (less than 42V).
Clause 6.1 of the standard has an added note A2 which states that:
Question:
Does this mean that based on the marking requirement from clause 7.1:
a) Both the device and power supply should be marked with the appliance class II symbol, or
b) The device should be be marked with the appliance class III symbol, and the power supply with the appliance class II symbol, or
c) The same as b) but with an additional class II symbol on the device and a corresponding note to indicate that this is when the device is connected to the power supply?
Apologies if this a stupid question, but the added note A2 from clause 6.1 doesn't define "complete appliance" or its implications, subsequently making clause 7.1 appear vague.
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help.
