Will auditing be replaced by AI?

Reflecting on a recent inspection there was a little dance around adequacy of some activities. It got me thinking about auditing to qualitative words like 'timely', 'complete' and 'adequate' which on occasion show up in regulations/requirements and how it would be difficult for AI to flag such items, or if it did it would at least be able to explain what went into its determination of the observation. But what about those areas where its not subjective like, "all requirements are verified". Will we get to where AI can review your entire documentation system to identify gaps or potential non-conformances? Are existing requirements tracking systems just a 'poor mans' AI where the structure is defined and maintained.

All this leads to what will it take to have an AI system do audits? By definition once achieved, the system could be continually auditing a company's documents to proactively find issues or highlight impending/growing risk of non-compliance.

As long as we're in the theoretical, heck, why not back it up and eliminate audits through the system enforcing compliance? (I can hear the gasping already! :) )

Well, there is more to auditing than ensuring that the documents comply- there is the actual work itself. I guess you could look at records of activities but Cheaters will simply lie and either document that they did do it or do things and not document it…see Boeing.
