How to keep up to date with NEW standards

Hello,

What is the best practice to keep up to date with NEW standards, not just revised ones? I understand revised standards you can subscribe to and get notified when they get updated. But what if a brand-spankin new standard comes out tomorrow that I don't know about, yet is relevant to me? What should trigger me to get it? I know some folks will say conferences and general networking, but relying on this seems like an easy way to miss something if the watercooler talk doesnt happen to go toward "New Standard ABC 123". I looked at what ISO sends out each month for their standard updates, for instance, and it's 5 pages of a list of hundreds of standards --- easy to miss something relevant. And then you have to do a similar exercise for other publishers. What good ideas are out there?

There is no "best practice" that will help the publishers of standards to know what might be relevant to you.

When you put it like that, no. I mean more of is there a way to get updates of standards related to your specific industry. In other words, can I get a newsletter of updates relevant to, say med device, but leave out petroleum, aviation, pharma, etc... seems very easy to miss otherwise

It is that's why you subscribe to services if they are offered or stay on your toes.
Any services you'd recommend? I see some publishers let you get notifications for an industry (ASTM or AAMI I think), but some don't. Are you basically saying, subscribe to the ones that do, and stay on your toes to catch anything else? Or is there a service you are aware of that you can subscribe to that monitors all the publishers?

The ISO Update page contains links to documents with comprehensive lists of standards and their stage of work. Please note these are only ISO standards. If you use industry documents like Responsible Care you would need to also monitor their parent organizations' sites. For regulatory (U.S. only as I understand it) some of my clients use JJ Keller notification subscription to help them keep up to date. Or you could just periodically review JJ Keller's news page. Regulations change pretty slowly.

I am not affiliated with JJ Keller.

I have used Techstreet.com, a clearinghouse for standards from many publishers. There is a free MyTracker feature, if you register a free account, where you enter a list of standards you wish to keep up-to-date, and the service notifies you when a new revision is released. It does not place an order, only a notification.

Engage in their business model. Buy standards from a single source. Believe me, they will alert you when its updated.
