Hi

We have a special device called AMAT or HUDS
It's a kind of Tooling to Align the Heads Up Display System in the Airplane

it is manufacture by Rockwell Collins

We use to have it Calibrate (every year) in their Wilsonville (OR) facility
BUT, it seems to be closed & nobody answers email & phone calls.....

I called Rockwell Collins, talked to over half-dozen persons.....but NOBODY seems to be able to help....

Anyone go a hint on that?

Thanks!!!!

Is this any kind of proprietary or controlled equipment? (Export controlled/US citizens only/DFAR/DPAS....)

I am in an aerospace/defense manufacturing plant that may or may not supply to said company and others like it. We also have some unique tooling and calibration devices provided by the customers. We calibrate them in house or have another company come in and calibrate them.
Usually they are pretty straightforward to calibrate. Like dimensional or RF measurements.
I do have one device that was manufactured and calibrated by Glenair. This is an off the shelf piece of equipment that anyone can buy. At some point they sold the product to another manufacturer and now neither really supports or will calibrate the product. At the end of the day, it is a device that makes a pressure measurement. Since nobody will calibrate this unique device as a whole, I now remove the pressure gauge from the device and calibrate that part of it. That is the best workaround I could find.

Given our customers and products (I am assuming this is for a military/defense aircraft HUD) we have to be careful sharing info. You may not be able to provide too much information about the system, but can you describe what is actually being calibrated? Dimensional/parallelism/flatness/RF...
If it is legal for you to disclose more info about the device, I may be able to help more. Or, you may be able to do this in-house, or just remove the part that is actually calibrated from the proprietary part and send that out.

Also - Rockwell Collins is now Collins Aerospace... this transition may have something to do with the issues you are experiencing.

Hi Mhannon

No, it's no military/defense related......it is commercial aircraft

We have certificate to 'see' what they were doing with it (at Collins)....but we don't think we have capabilities in house to do it.....AND, have no time to investigate for 40hrs......that's why we are looking a Third Party to certify it

We know they were doing a lot of things in that Wilsonville Lab.....cause evytime we sent that unit, there were a 2 months backlog.....evrytime.....
SO, they must have transfert it somewhere......but NOBODY can help.....and, when we call the number we have.....the answer is: "you have reach an unused Collins Aerospace Number.....Please call Collins Aerospace....." and NO number to WHO TO CALL....lolllll

That's why I'm here....to see if anybody know a place to certify it.......

Just a quick Google search, but have you tried these numbers? They at least appear to be in service.
From the Collins website

Another question - How old are these HUDs you are trying to calibrate? Are they by chance discontinued and end-of-life'd by Collins and therefore no longer supported - including all tooling and related calibration equipment?

It is odd that nobody at Collins is any help. Makes me think these are obsolete products.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help......don't worry, I'm good at searching the net......
All the above contacts are the one I spoke to....and NOBODY have a clue.....

I don't think it's discontinuated.....and if so, I hope that Collins would have it in their DB....and tell me so when I spoke to a human....

I'll keep searching....

Thanks again for you help...
