Nissan made a similar announcement. The electrification of the transportation sector is well underway. And, with the autonomous vehicle technology following, many paradigms will be shattered.

Horse fritters, has anyone taken the time to factor in the emissions and potential environmental impact of the infrastructure to support EV's in large masses nationwide?

Or the potential environmental impact for the acquisition of the raw materials necessary to support the manufacture of large masses efficient EV's on a national scale? (Can we talk the mining of lithium and other necessary nicities for batteries, lighter weight vehicles and such?)

How about the generation of the electricty itself to charge and recharge EV's in large masses on a national scale?

Each and every one of those things will generate untold GHG emissions (primarily CO2 of course which is the least harmful but is generated in the greatest quantity and therefore having the largest warming effect).

Hey let's not even be concerned with the end of life management of those EV's, their power sources and the potential environmental impact of all that krap.

There's more to this than nice strong long lasting batteries

If this was Twitter, your post would be flagged. In this day and age where disinformation is rampant, not even the fossil fuel industry would make these shameless accusations. Nobody is saying that EV's don't have an environmental impact. But very few informed people dispute their impact to be much lesser than the fossil fuel route, ESPECIALLY from a climate change perspective.

Yep, well show me the disinformation and I'll start losing sleep. But guess what? Those are real because I'm dealing with many clients that are working towards Zero themselves and they're asking and researching the exact same things...........It's all part of Life Cycle, Cause & Effect or whatever buzzword phrasing is in play at any given moment.

Yep, well show me the disinformation and I'll start losing sleep.
It is the other way around. If the electrification of the transportation sector, something HUGELY DISRUPTIVE to the world and a death sentence to mega corporations were to bring net losses from a global environmental perspective, don’t you think serious and recognized environmentalists would be shouting their lungs out? Show me evidence of a significant number of reputable scientists claiming what you claim.
Otherwise, it is just another example of flat earth believers, climate change deniers and stop the steal supporters.

1st...I'm not a nay-sayer on climate change, I myself witnessed localized climate and environmental change from human impact in the High Mojave Desert over the 18 years I lived there.

2nd...The earth is absolutely not flat, I've seen the curve from the backseat of an F4

3rd...And please don't include me with the nut cases

I asked questions that others are asking as well around a simple question..............Can the change to EV's and achievemnt of Carbon Zero be obtained and sustained without the generation of GHG's (CO2) with present technology?....The answer is binary Yes or No.

What is being proposed is not zero carbon emissions, but CARBON NEUTRALITY (or carbon negative). Many ways exist to offset carbon emissions, but, and obviously, the less carbon being emitted, the less offset an organization, country, etc. would have to perform. Decarbonization of the economy is a real movement, and from my perspective, unstoppable.

I haven't a link off hand, but yes to all. And have you been keeping up with advances in solar and wind?

I have to laugh when I see your dinosaur car.avatar. Some of the Teslas do 0 to 60 in about 2 to 3 seconds.

If it walks like a duck....

Bottom line is most major countries will not allow gasoline vehicles in 20 to 30 years. The gas and oil companies know renewables are the future. The pandemic started the conversation, but current plans are to covert the Champs-Elysees into a no-car garden and walking zone over the next 5 to 10 years. The world is changing ever faster, as Elon Musk trashes near earth atmosphere with thousands of trash bits.
