As many of you probably remember, in the old vBulletin forum, if you were on the forum home page it updated about every 5 minutes or so. I know a lot of people sort of "camped out" there, as did I, to watch for new posts. In Xenforo I couldn't find a way to do that. Andy, an Xenforo "add-on" developer, made this add-on: Latest posts live - which I have installed here.

Edit: NOTE: I have been testing to try to reproduce Brad's "Can not stay logged in" problem, and I do see that on a smart phone the sidebar doesn't show unless you scroll WAY down...

Just to add - I have not until now "parked" on the "New Posts" page: New posts - which the forum listing home page has a link to ("New Posts") - It appears that it auto-updates as well, but I haven't really "parked" there long enough to see if it auto-updates.

I'm still learning about so many aspects of this software that I really feel stupid at times.

I've been using the "What's New" area. I actually like that it doesn't auto refresh. Is there a difference between them other than that?

It's totally a matter of personal taste.

I used to watch "Real Time" access in my Google account now and again, and often would see as many as 5 to 15 people "camped" on the forum home page. I know I did quite often to watch for new posts. Camping on the forum home page was a bit annoying at times as the whole page refreshed, but it was easy to see when someone posted something new. Just adding something that I think some people might like.

And like I say - It may be that the "New Posts" page auto-refreshes, too. I know the "minutes since the post was made" increments every few minutes on the "New Posts" page.

Definitely. The reason I ask is I notice there is a difference between "what's new" and "new posts". Didn't know if there was even another difference. It's interesting that "new posts" is so different from "what's new".

This software has lots of redundant links, drop down menus, and - Well, it can get a bit confusing at times. Example:

Latest Posts in Right Sidebar on the Forum Listing Home Page

If you click on What's new link, it will take you to a new page with all of the items in the sub-menu shown. Notice the little up-side-down triangle on the right, which I clicked on in this screen capture, which gives you 5 different options in a drop down menu. Just to the left of the What's New link and drop down is another "New Posts" link. In short, there are a lot of ways to get to various pages.

I have not even tried "Your News Feed" yet... I have no idea what is in my "News Feed". But I'll find out in a minute... ;)
