What is Process Auditing?

You just have to take a look at the process you are auditing. What are the inputs? What processes are linked? What does the process plan to accomplish? Is it currently performing as planned? If not, have they figured out why? Are they doing anything about it?

Plan, Do, Check, Act. That will get you there.

(My take) It's an audit technique that focuses on the company processes -v- individual clauses. For example, if you audit, say, a customer service process then you would cover document control, human resources, etc. In a 'classic' clause-based audit, you may just sample document control from a single functional area, thereby missing other areas.

I mean,process-oriented auditing

Sampling an organization’s process to report on how well the work and interactions (usually the tasks of several people/machines) fulfills its objectives and to report on how well the system supports the process.

The audit criteria (procedure) may or may not be documented.

A process such as purchasing, for example, may involve several people aided by computers and software. The audit may start with the effectiveness of the supplier selection criteria and end with the conformity of the services or products received. The system may let the process down by paying a supplier for nonconforming materials, for example.

ISO 9001:2015 clause 4.4 Quality management system and its processes. The organization shall determine the processes needed for QMS and their application throughout the organization.

During the audit based on process approach, the consideration of processes in terms of added value to be focused and the achievement of effective process performance is met or not.
