Staffing/Contract Labor Provider

I have a customer that is IATF 16949 Certified (Tier 7 to the Auto Industry) I'm told that as a supplier to them (Staffing, as in temp to perm or long term contract labor), that I need to become ISO 9001 Certified as part of their IATF Certification requirement. This seems like a bit of stretch to me. Is there a simpler solution?

Any thoughts appreciated.

ISO 9001 merely specifies what your organization should already be doing to be sure of fulfilling the staffing needs of your customers.

As an established business already satisfying your clients you already comply, mostly. To assume not can become complicated and wasteful by ignoring your existing policies and procedures even though they may not be documented.

As to alternatives, you could ask your trade association but you’ll probably find they recommend something similar to ISO 9001 so it is a standard recognized nationally and internationally.

Before investing in accredited certification ask your customer if it is really necessary. They may be satisfied with your self-declaration of conformity.

Thank you for the reply, and I'd agree we are likely mostly compliant given the 20 years in this relationship with them and from results of audits that they have performed.

Your last sentence suggests to me that the "requirement" that suppliers to IATF Certified companies do not necessarily need to be certified to one of the standards but rather the customer has to be satisfied by some means that the supplier has an adequate management system?

The requirement is for an effective management system and you may audit your system to determine this.

But you’d have to ask your customer if your self-declaration of conformity to ISO 9001 is enough.

But be ready for your customer asking you for evidence of your competence to do this.

I'm curious, what was the resolution? I have had many years in AS and ISO compliant / certified companies. All of my experience has been with companies that produce goods and very limited services except those that are common to production services. I'm now retired but I'm helping a friend of a friend pursue ISO 9001 compliance / certification in a staffing company, primarily working on documentation and I'm not familiar with how to develop the documentation for a company that only provides service. Example: How would one approach Design and Development?
Also, OTD has always served as a metric for analysis and evaluation in production sites but how would we measure that with respect to staffing?
I can be a bit creative and develop Control of NC Outputs, and NC and CAR procedures but I am struggling with some areas.
