We have always done it in that way.
We agreed with the customer that they could look into it - thus proving we had the know how of the technique and that it was implemented - but we did not give copies.

We could do that for every customer except for Citroën. They insisted on having copies ( also of our drawings , control plan, etc ).
We even had to translate them into French.
and yes .......the job went to a French supplier afterwards.

Best regards,

Antoine

...Perhaps that is why they insisted on it...

I'm trying to resurrect this old discussion rather than opening one with similar topic.

Is FMEA report a mandatory requirement for PPAP report?

It would be if you are responding to a customer that wants an AIAG style PPAP. If there is some compelling reason why you would not want to submit one (highly confidential or whatever), it can be waived by the customer, because it is a customer requirement.

We prepared 2 sets of FMEA, one which contained confidential data , the other one for submission purpose. I know this would defeat the purpose, but u never know if the next SQE would pass it to someone else.

We did request for the document to be waived but they always turned down the request.

I've never understood why companies keep FMEA's confidential. I've never seen an FMEA that was so good that it would be of benefit to competition. Sure a competitor could copy it an submit it as their own but what benefit would that be to improve their design or process?

I agree with earlier comment. I have reviewed many "super-secret" FMEAs and there was no information that would have benefited a competitor. In most cases, what I learned was that my supplier didn't know how to use the FMEA!

I think, FMEA should be submitted to customer as requirement of agreement, and we do not need to worry about that our patent /secret may be obtained by other competitor, for we do not need to describe the detail of process parameter or other in the FMEA.
