Is there any thing written that Quality does not directly report to production?

So this may become a vicious circle.
Quality in bed with production where the objectiveness may be swayed.
ISO does not want Quality and Production to be intertwined so as to make sure that Quality is not biased or subject to pressure. Why then does the Quality Manager have to report to the highest level of the company? Or is that an unwritten rule too?

ISO does not have any requirements regarding "intertwining." The only independency requirement is in Clause 8.2.2 where it states: "Auditors shall not audit their own work."

Very well then. It must be expressed as auditors must not audit their own work. Thanks for the help.:bigwave:

As Stijloor has pointed out, ISO has nothing to say about the subject of "intertwining" or strange bedfellows. There is also no requirement for the QM to report to the highest level of the company, and this is nothing new. Twenty years ago I was a QM and reported to a VP of operations, and so did the production manager (and the HR manager, and the purchasing manager...).
