I think from what potdar was saying (especially the emoticons!) you / we would have our eyes opened - not necessarily in a positive way!

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

I recently visited some factories in India and found some very interestingly advanced plants. The implementation of various tools from TPM to A3 storybooks was good

If I get what you are inferring, it should be the other way around. Your folks should come OVER here to learn. Including your AB's.;)

Sidney, unfortunately all the ABs happen to be europeans (UKAS, RvA, DAR...). :( The indian AB (NABCB) was formed just about a year back.

And yes Howard, there are a few GOOD corporates in India. Thats how people like me survive in business.;)

They have quite a list of accredited CB's, for being so "new".

I know from previous threads that you imply well known CB's are cutting corners in India. I don't deny it could be happening. The problem is that innuendo without action is nothing but gossip.

I don't work for an "alphabet soup" registrar, so I'm not bringing a dog to this fight.
But, I've been there, done that, so here's my $.02. And before Acme, Inc. signs with someone because some smooth talking, well-dressed hombre shows up, here's what to ask before you enter admin/scheduling ****!

a) Is the registrar TS-approved?
(Love 'em or hate 'em, they only allowed a third of CB's entry, thank you!)

b) Do you have local auditors?

c) If not, can I cap travel costs? (And if not, do I pay for "travel time?")

d) "How long have YOU been with ABC Registrar?" "Are YOU a Lead Auditor?"

e) Can I interview your auditors?

f) Can I have the same auditor for three years?

g) What's your annual "cert fee?"

h) (Sshhh, don't ask the rep...call on your own and see what kind of response you get to an inquiry. One "alphabet soup" registrar I know has a mean response time of 4 weeks, for quotes!! Ask a technical question, like their interpretation of the standard. If you get hemming and hawing, move on!)

i) References (locally), please.

In the U.S. I recommend medium-size shops. I found out that, after signing, the Big Kids just threw my clients into the bait bucket with their other catches!

Cheers,

The Madfox

Sorry Sidney,

I too hate to hint at things. Thats why I got drawn into naming names. But my invite still stands. Please put India (or any developing country - mid east will do) on your vacation calendar. Have a first hand experience. I specifically suggest a vacation. Not an official trip.

And lets not blame only the CBs. Ask the saintly ABs how many certificates have been issued under their seal by the well known CBs in India. And also ask them whether they have bothered to observe even one of these audits. Where is the short cut?

Lets not comment on NABCB. Whoever was already acceditated with IAC / PAC members and asked for their accreditation got it.

Madfox, the same stands true for TS. Unfortunately, that too is getting diluted at the speed of light. I am today trying to resurrect the QMS for a company whose assessment was painted red by FORD last month. The company was recertified for TS three weeks ago (obviously by somebody in the "not everybody" category). They were QS certified in 2000.

You are having a reach inside AB structures. I will leave it to you to discover your own answers.

So far as taking action is concerned, I have already taken action on this issue on a personal level. I have no intention, nor the means to battle it out on a global scale in a David v/s Goliath situation.

Thanks.
