I was laughing whenever I saw this kind of concern, blocking internet. It is not really true in China. Government only block the websites with pornographic, violent and horrific to protect people here.

I m from China, I can visit this website whenever I want.
As I understand it, site-blocking in China is often inconsistent between its state-owned regional ISPs, and inconsistent from day to day. The Chinese government is very active in blocking content that's considered politically controversial, so it's not just pornography and violence.
From a recent New York Times article on the subject:
Internet censorship in China is among the most stringent in the world. The government blocks Web sites that discuss the Dalai Lama, the 1989 crackdown on Tiananmen Square protesters, Falun Gong, the banned spiritual movement and other Internet sites.

From a recent New York Times article on the subject:

We have more than 4,000-years history in writting, and more than 5000-years totally. There are about 21 dynasties in our history, and people were enjoying their life when China was unified, on the contrary, people were suffering from wars, poverty and famine whenever China was seperated in to few parts by warlords or there were many different groups trying to control parts of China. Hence, the peaceful evironment is very importat to us. As you know the examples from New York Time are seen as voilence by me as these people or organization were/are threaten the stable of my country.

sunwen,

My "Warning" had nothing to do with your post. You have nothing to be sorry about.

Personally I have no problem with your reply to Jim's post. I felt your reply to Jim was appropriate. What I want to prevent is an escalation of rhetoric. The reality is every country has its drawbacks and strengths.

All I want to do is maintain the essence of this forum - Immigration and Expatriate Topics - and unfortunately what has happened is the current political and economic climate is poisoning China - US relations because of the trade imbalance and the controversy of currency wars. That is what has crept into this thread and shouldn't be tainting the discussion.

So - By all means, everyone, continue the discussion in the spirit of the intent of the forum focus: Immigration and Expatriate Topics
