Rules and Guidelines for Coffee Break Forum Threads and Posts

None the less, this will depend upon you folks starting a thread where you set the 'standards' for posts and threads. NO OTHER DISCUSSION. Standards for posting. If you folks don't come up with a list of guidelines by Friday end of day I am seriously considering dropping the forum entirely.

This is the focus point for this thread. All other comments should be posted in the other threads dealing with this topic. Unfortunately, I have to go on the road today (like, work :( ) and will submit my draft later today. That does not preclude others from submitting theirs. Thanks :agree:

I'd say I've already submitted mine by posting it.

However, reading another thread regarding the continuance of the CB Forum, made me add another Guideline

"If uncertain about whether your post/thread topic is acceptable, contact a Moderator for their thoughts first."

When I was looking for support and donations for The Weekend to End Cancer, I did not want to breach any Cove-etiquette, so I contacted Marc first for his feedback. True, my post contained no insults, profanity, or even deragatory comments (in my mind), but some people might have found the request for donations and support a bit inappropriate.

Thankfully, Marc said I could go ahead and the resulting support I received from the members of this group was outstanding!

Just proving that the CB Forum can be success if we just use some common sense before posting! :D

Randy hit the nail on the proverbial head....

My definition of profanity may be different than Energy's.
My definition of derogatory may be different than Roxanne's.
My definition of an insult may be different than db's.

Energy - you aked - how hard is this-----it is WAY hard.

Yes, it is hard, Carol, but that's why we're attempting to develop some Rules and Guidelines.

So, Randy and Carol...rather than play Devil's Advocate (even though I am actually enjoying it), give us your definitions.

What do you consider to be profanity?

What do you consider to be derogatory?

What do you consider to be an insult?

Step up to the plate and help us win this.

Roxanne,
I normally stay out of the CB, I would occasionally jump in, but I was far from a regular reader/partcipant...mainly because I found most of it to be offensive....so, I will take a pass. It's not my thing.

I was gonna stay out of the rules lest I be accused of being self-serving, but let me make one suggestion for the heck of it:

Profanity - Would not say it in church (even if you were only there to be nice to a friend) or your religious leader or or to your Mom or Grandma. Includes using symbols to fool the profanity filter (i.e. he11). For anyone who needed further defining an off-line e-mail could list some examples in a warning.

Insults/Derogatory - much more subjective. Maybe as hard to define as pornography was for the Supreme Court justice with the famous quote. IMO the best you can do is ask folks to be nice and let moderators note if you went too far.

Thanks for participating, Mike! :) And I like your idea about an offline email with further examples of what is and is not acceptable!

Yes, the second group is a lot more grey. Asking folks to be nice is asking them to adhere to common sense. I mean, we don't go around insulting each other in the professional forums...why should the CB Forum be any different, right?

Don't sweat it...I actually laughed. Never been called that before.

There have been instances where it has happened before. But for common practice, no we don't.
