Bill Bryson - I didn't see any other comments regarding this truely excellent and funny American writer. He lived in the UK for a number of years and has written what I believe are some of the most interesting and informative books.

Tom Clancy, for the technical accuracy (for the most part) of his enthralling stories. Robin Cook, just started with him and 'Marker' - couldn't put it down!

MIchael Palin, not just a Python. Douglas Adams for his books other than H2G2. A true loss of talent too. Azimov, Graham Greene, Kenneth Graham.

Hello, a new author to try if you like "urban fantasy" - Jim Butcher and the Dresden Files. He's up to 9 published in this series with a 10th due out in 2008. The main protagonist is Harry Dresden, a practicing wizard living in Chicago. You can check out excerpts from his books at: https://www.jim-butcher.com/books/

Jim Butcher has done a good job throughout the series. He keeps the storylines moving and has good continuity from book to book. I'm working on book #8 now that classes are finished until January.

The Sci-Fi network show was pretty good, but I was a little disappointed in some of the changes they made from the descriptions in the books: VW beetle, Murphy, etc.

Of course, I'd also forgotten the fact that since I've changed my vocation, I now read a lot of sales brochures about luxury British cars and SUV's.........

A sad announcement on Yahoo - I just opened Yahoo at work, and noticed an announcement under Yahoo news that fantasy author Terry Pratchett, age 59, has been diagnosed with a rare form of early onset Alsheimer's.
He apparently has a note regarding the condition posted on his illustrator's (Paul Kidby) web site. I have not checked out or hunted down Paul Kidby's web site, but the Yahoo information should be realtively accessible.

Oh man.

I love Terry Pratchett. I have most of the Discworld books and his collaboration with Neil Gaiman (Good Omens) is easily in my top 25 favorite reads.

He is a unique wit.

For fans of Graphic novels and comic books I have to recommend "Fables" by Bill Willingham.

It's about characters from fairy tales who escape their worlds and come to live in ours. Old King Cole is the mayor fo Fabletown, Snow White is his assitant and the Big Bad Wolf is the sheriff.

Outstanding writing. I'm totally absorbed.

warning though - it's NOT for children or people who are averse to violence and sexuality.

:(

No, Mustang! It's just great and being an old dog needs help now and then, but since November I am 'actively involved' as a 'customer advocate'.........just down on Hall Road, at a certain dealership.............:notme:

I recently finished books #1 and #2 of the Night Angel trilogy written by Brent Weeks. I've enjoyed both of the books and looking forward to the third once, but unfortunately I'm in dissertation mode right now.

The next non-work or academic book I'll read is going to be Raymond Feist's next novel coming out in March. I will find the time for that, even if it means making the wife drive everywhere we go just so I can get a few minutes to read.
