SciFi discussion - Science Fiction

Enemy Mine was a 1979 science fiction story by Barry B. Longyear which was very loosely based on a similar pretext and was later made as a film but changing the ending and deleting the interplay in between the main characters.
I was thinking about that one too. I have not seen the film but the book is good. It is also one of many that could fit peters description.

So Hershal, how did you like Star Trek at the Hilton in Vegas?

Love it of course.....the Klingons, the Borg, the Ferengi, the Andorians, the barkeeps, and the manager all know me.....my favorite place to party......

Personal advice.....never make a female Klingon Warrior angry at you.....I don't believe I will ever make that particular mistake again.....she is the one in the pic with me (a few posts back).....the Major.....

We should set up a Cove party there at Quarks.......

I have been reading sci-fi from a very young age and agree with the list posted by Claes in the opening post - several years ago I read a book based on the Robinson Crusoe story and would like to read it again but cannot recall the author, can anybody give me a clue?

I have read this one perhaps it is the one you are talking about. Loved the movie also although the science is dated.

Gordon, Rex (pseudonym of Stanley Bennett Hough). NO MAN FRIDAY. Melbourne, London, Toronto: William Heinemann Ltd, [1956]. Octavo, boards. First edition. Issued later in the U.S. as FIRST ON MARS (1957). "...a detailed portrayal of a castaway's creative struggle for survival." - Anatomy of Wonder (1987) 3-177. Probable uncredited source for the film Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964).

There have been several books using the theme of an individual marooned or stranded in a strange land who hooks up with a "friday." Heck, even Stallone made a movie that combined the themes of Rip Van Winkle, Sherlock Holmes, and Robinson Crusoe with Sandra Bullock playing the Dr. Watson and Friday roles (Demolition Man https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106697/)

Enemy Mine was a good story. How about this one (https://www.amazon.com/Robinson-Crusoe-000-d/dp/0743309014) as a candidate?
