I just found and love this thread!

Orson Scott Card's is by far on of my favorites! I've read everything of his I can get my hands on. The stories of Ender!! The Seventh Son/Alvin Maker Series ( I highly recommend!)

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series!! Loved it!!

Phillip Pullman's Dark Matters Series! What a fantastic adventure!

Eragon and then Eldest by Christopher Paolini (who was only 15 years old when he published Eragon...)

Cant forget Harry Potter!

Mainly I read any sci-fi/fantasy works that are available at our local library. Those above are just a few of my all time favorites! I'm loving reading your posts and getting ideas from everyone! Looks like I'm off to the library with a new list of books to look for tonight!

Enemy Mine was a 1979 science fiction story by Barry B. Longyear which was very loosely based on a similar pretext and was later made as a film but changing the ending and deleting the interplay in between the main characters.
Originally published in the September 1979 issue of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine (no, you cannot read my copy).

My newest SF obsession is the Honor Harrington Series by (broken link removed). He has also teamed up with the previously mentioned John Ringo for some pretty spectacular SF. See the Baen Books website for these and many other excellent authors.

Bump!

I think this old thread could still have some miles left in it. I am currently reading Galactic North by Alastair Reynolds. How about the rest of you?

Recently finished Hideous Beauty by Jack Cavanaugh. Not too bad, will probably pick up the second book in the series.

Just started The Summoner by Gail Z. Martin. Only three chapters in and I hope it will pick up the pace.

Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files) and Raymond Feist had both put out books earlier this year from their respective series. Both books were finished in only a couple of days, so these authors are highly recommended.

Hi everyone,

After a couple of insane years in production and then a horrible year of unemployment I'm back in a brand new quality role and I have reactivated my Elsmar account. I love this old thread. Here are some new suggestions:

1. The Vorkosigan Series - Lois McMaster Bujold
2. The Lions of Al-Rassan, Tigana, A Song for Arbonne, The Fionavar Tapestry, The Last Light of the Sun - Guy Gavriel Kay (pure fantasy by a Canadian genius with amazing historical settings and very educational)
3. The Annals of the Black Company - Glen Cook

The three Lord of the Rings movies were stunning. When I read the book as a teenager I was adamant that it could never be made into a movie. Well it took three but Peter Jackson thankfully proved me wrong.

Cheers,
Neil

Currently reading The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is complete and as of now Frodo has been struck in the shoulder by the Ring Wraith...it's finally becoming an awesome read. It takes quite a while to get the story really moving.

Time to take flight to Rivendell...things are about to get good!

I absolutely agree about Guy Gavriel Kay! Song for Arbonne was excellent but I also read people like Adams, Stephen Donaldson, Terry Brooks etc. In factthe more I think about it the more I realise that buying me the whole works of H. G. Wells when I was 10 started me off on this track! Thanks, Dad!!
I'm one of those people who become totally antisocial when I read; my hearing and general awareness of the room ceases to function and I'm lost completely in the world of the book. Anyone else get bruises on their shoulders just cos they're reading? LOL:lol:
