That’s what I alluded to in the post @ ISO 9001 News - Tirelessly Improving the Brand Integrity of ISO 9001 - Working Group under ISO TC 176.an reminded of a quote by Einstein: You cannot fix something with the same level of thinking that created the problem…
The utter and shameful failure of the ISO 9001 Brand Integrity Group is just one more indication of the disarray. 9001, ISO’s blockbuster standard, responsible for introducing ISO to most of the world, leaving its obscure existence in a Swiss canton, is a conundrum. Responsible for a significant revenue generation for ISO and many other stakeholders it can’t be left alone as a stable standard does not generate additional income in new sales, training, consulting, books, articles, etc. Committee members become agents of a political and financial strategy, rather than a strict technical role. And narratives are spun to justify new polling after voting members voice their opinion. Of course, the proper cool aid is passed around among the volunteers that populate the national mirror committees so they think a revision makes sense and they can contribute to it.
