It says "...needed to ensure the effective operation and control..." That doesn't mean that a KPI is necessary. You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

I forgot about looking at 9002, thanks Sidney.

I kinda felt like Jim and his Dylan reference. I didn't get a NC but I get the feeling that next year it will come up again and be another battle.

I posted a link to this article on another thread but it might be relevant to this discussion. There is no requirement for KPIs for each process but KPIs may be beneficial for some vital processes.

Thanks for posting the link, Paul. A lot to digest there.

One thought, FWIW:

In the article you stated, "Bearing in mind all aspects of the process approach were available long before the introduction of this latest 2015 edition of the quality management system standard – why are we still discussing the process approach? The answer is simple, if damning, collectively we still don’t get it!"

Why?

Why is it that after all this time and effort, many (most?) people and organizations don't "get it"? I don't have the answer - I'm not that smart. Maybe they don't want "it", maybe the teaching is poor, maybe the explanations are poor, maybe the requirements are poorly written, maybe most people just aren't very smart.

I'm not a Mensa member but I think I have a 3 digit IQ, yet I often have difficulty understanding and implementing some of the requirements of ISO, AS, and other standards. Maybe they're written for people smarter than me.
