Re: Will ISO/TS16949 be aligned to ISO9001:2015 in the future?

Hi, just read in Document: ISO/TC 176/SC2/N1172 that there is a NWIP. There stands ... "Prepare NWIP for future ISO/TS on ?ISO 9001 implementation guidance? (for publication simultaneously with ISO 9001:2015)"

I'm curious what will be the output. Intereseted in your opinion.

Has there been any new direction given on if TS with follow ISO?

Recently the IAOB sent out a survey to a few of their CB's in regards to whether or not to adopt the new version of ISO 9001. A decision has not been made yet.

I find that interesting and comforting...IATF has been doing some pretty dumb moves lately, and really buggered up the TS 4th ed. Rules. Perhaps they will get their act together again.

I had heard they said they would walk away, but I had also heard they were definitely going to upgrade. Over the years, every time there was a new ISO update, the IATF/IAOB/AIAG group threatened to pull away, and every time they went along. I have suggested this is more a negotiating ploy than a meaningful position.

It would wreak even more havoc onto the TS community. I can imaging that thousands of smaller TS companies would revert back to ISO 9001. The loss in revenue to IATF would be much greater than whatever license fee they have to pay to ISO. It just seems a dumb posture to take when we are discussing global standardization of the quality of industry.

It will be interesting to watch. But, I think it would be a major mistake, compounding the fiasco they launched with the TS Rules 4th ed. They need to wake up and listen to their customers, not just the OE's.

Hi: When we talk of the global standardization of an industry, such as the automotive world, it would appear to an outsider, this concept is not valid. If the outsider considers the OEMs CSR along with GM's QSB requirements, along with TS16949 requirements, how could one deduce anything but an independant approach by each OEM to manage their supply base.
I believe it is time for the elimination of TS16949 as a certification. From a business point of view, TS16949 along with the CSRs from the OEM are not cost effective nor productive to the bottom line.
Thanks
Jeff

More practical question .....

How to integrate the 8 clauses in TS16949 with 10 of the new 9001:2015?

I still hope common sense will prevail, and the will upgrade TS. But if they don't, we have been integrating TS with ISO 14001 for years. And those clauses don't align at all.

The method is simply to align the topics that are the same, and have extra sections for those topics that don't exist in TS. Don't worry about the clause numbers, use section titles to align. If you want to show the clause numbers for reference, put them in paranthesis behind the title.

Thanks - that makes sense.

/agree iro the 14001 and 9001 - these are both under review with the Annex SL and numbering corresponding.

Filip,
AIAG is hosting a meeting with suppliers on December 9th in Southfield, MI to provide an update that will answer your question. The IAOB and AIAG conducted a survey of approx. 30 suppliers back in October to gage supplier perspectives on the question. The other regional supplier associations that are part of the IATF did the same. Let me know if you would like to receive the meeting invitation and be part of the discussion.
Best Regards, ScottQ
