My understanding is that IATF are on the verge of issuing a communique following on from their recent meeting in China that will clarify this issue. That stacks up with the previous post about AIAG briefing. Timings seem to coincide.

Dear All
This is official now, the ISO TS 16949 will follow the ISO 9001 : 2015.
This is from the IATF official website today :
"The IATF has established a work team consisting of IATF member organizations to develop a design specification for the revision of ISO/TS 16949 to align with the ISO 9001:2015 based structure and requirements. Posted on 5 Dec 2014"
Best regards
Amine

ISO/TS16949 aligned to ISO9001:2015

Let us say a version of TS 16949 aligned with ISO 9001:2015 is developed and released.
  1. What will the advantages be?
  2. What will the disadvantages be?
  3. Will there be any significant changes in interpretations, and if so in what areas?

Re: ISO/TS16949 aligned to ISO9001:2015

Many companies have automotive and nonautomotive clients. Some are certified to both TS and ISO. Some are only TS and their customers accept that because the two are aligned. If IATF breaks that, companies will have to do more audit days to remain certified to both standards. Besides, there appear to be good improvements in the new standard...continual improvement...

To me the "continual improvement" aspect is a no brainer that every company does if they want to stay in business. Putting it in ISO 9001:2015 as a "requirement" isn't going to change that.

Actually, I was referring to the standards improving and not remaining static. But, I can say the degree of "continual improvement" varies greatly from company to company. Some do it well, some do very little.

In response to comments about each OEM instituting own requirements on top of TS, it is already happening. The number of new requirements from the OEM's in the past year has been much higher than in previous years. We used to get updates on occasion and now its not uncommon to get updates from each OEM each month.

I have a question on the upcoming release of ISO/TS16949 concerning internal auditor training. Will it be necessary for Certified Internal Lead auditors to be re-certified.

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

If and when this comes out, external auditors will almost certainly be required to retrain and reverify. Internal auditors have never been required to be "Certified," but should receive training and be competent.
