My understanding is this: The IATF 16949 will be audited by the CB auditor in conjunction with ISO9001:2015. Once that's done the certificate IATF16949 will be awarded. If the client needs a separate certificate ISO9001:2015, the client will have it without undergoing a separate ISO audit. I stand corrected tho.

Did I read that right, certification is mandatory? What about all the small vendors who have no real need for certification?

If small vendors are to supply the OEM then they can be audited by a second party auditor.

The [IATF 16949] document contains only the automotive-specific additional requirements; however, the organization is still required to comply with ISO 9001:2015.
They've eliminated "boxed text" from content, but kept "out-of-box" text.
Previously, there was no need to buy ISO 9001, as whole its text was citied inside ISO/TS 16949. Now we have to buy ISO 9001 and separately IATF requirements.
If I find even single section with "No further IATF requirements on this section" I will sue them. :lmao:
