API Q2 Specification - QMS (Oil & Gas Industry Aftermarket)

I noticed that there is some focus on Risk Management in API Spec Q2 which i believe is also referenced to ISO 31000. What would be the general expectations for API spec Q2 applicant companies in this area?

API Q2 Specification

I am preparing a client for Q2 by upgrading their ISO9001:2008 system, which I also prepared. I have briefed them on Q2 and shared with them what I have learned since my visit to API in DC on May 28, 2012.

1. Both Q1 and Q2 are released with the Q2 revision team working on a supporting guidance document to be released before the end of this year.

2. I purchased a copy of Q2 and have begun revising the existing quality manual. I find it very easy to include the added Q2 requirements and can see how many of the 16 or so requirements for a documented procedure can be consolidated into less than a dozen.

3. My contact at API QR recently emailed me that they would begin accepting and processing Q2 registration applications soon after Jan 1, 2013. API QR is currently the only sanctioned registrar for Q2.

I plan to have my client ready to be one of the first applicants. I hope this may help anyone planning for Q2. Del Foster

Re: API Q2 Specification

Thank you for the update. Could you please let me know who "sanctions" registrars for the Q2 standard?
Below is a cut/paste from the google/wikipedia search for RABQSA. By "sanctioned" I was referring to organizations officially recognized as a certification body.

RABQSA is an Australian personnel and training certification body. RABQSA was created in 2004 from the acquisition of the personnel certification activities of United States of America-based Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) by Australia-based Quality Society of Australasia (QSA). The RABQSA has offices in Sydney, Milwaukee, Tokyo, Taipei, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur and Auckland. Its activities are to design, develop, and deliver personnel and training certification services for various industries. Other certification bodies include the (broken link removed) (PECB).

RABQSA ia an auditor authentication/certification body and does not sanction registrars. In the USA, ANAB is the registrar accreditation body, but they have no accreditation program for the API management system standards. API Q1, a.k.a ISO/TS 29001 has been used for certification purposes for a number of years, now, but lacking an accreditation program, certificates are issued outside of the IAF umbrella.

Based on what I understand from you now, it seems to me that there is no sanctioned/accredited registrar for API Q2 (nor Q1 for that matter).

Dear Del,

What are the prerequisites/qualifications for the person assisting an Organization to revise their quality documentation to be API Spec Q2 compliant? Your comments please.
