The API Q1 or Q2 Manual is specific to each O&G companies depending on the nature of their core businesses or API equipment manufacturing or servicing activities.
One company may has a API Q1 Manual together addressing API Monogram certification API Spec 6A, 17B, 6D, etc. especially technical requirements in relevant API standards.

API Q1 and API Q2 has a few different elements but both API standards. need to address the design and development requirements.

I have seen an older version and I use it for reference. I like the few elements on it.

Dear All,

My name is Bambang, an SQC for National Petroleum Services KSA.
I would like to ask a question regarding API spec Q2, clause 5.4 in specific, since my company is now applying for it.

May I create a design of services based on type of jobs regardless of well location instead of create it based on job for a particular well?
example: creating a design for acid stimulation job for every well in the future instead of creating job design for acid stimulation on well X.

Im asking this because i have a similar job on a different well and i was told that i need to have a design for each job on each well.

I apologize if i address this in wrong forum/thread.

Thanks for the answers.

Welcome to The Cove, Bambang.

While well engineering is a complex issue and the specifics of the formation, well geometry, completion equipment, etc may vary from well to well, you can create an acid stimulation service design package, which might have to be tweaked for each specific well.

Good luck.

Hi everybody!

I work in Central Asian oilfield service group copmany wich provides well drilling and workover services. Currently my company is applying for the API Q2. And im struggling with Service of design. As was mentioned before that Service of Design (D & D) is not a manual for the each operation. But i cant find any examples for this section.

I would like to ask how to make a D&D for the whole drilling service, what does it include. If somebody can share any examples (from drilling part) it would be very useful for me.

Thanks a lot !

P.S. I`ve just registered here and for the last hour I found a lot of very useful information. Thanks for the professionals who is helping to people from other countries. My company is the first one from the country who is applying for the API Q2.

it is recommended you and your company hire a good experience consultant to do the training and implementation of API Q1 or Q2 and no point search all over the internet world to find answers. That is my opinion and it is worth the money to do RIGHT things right the FIRST TIME. instead of saving penny pound foolish attitude.

Thanks for your answer and your opinion!

Obvioulsy you are right!

Before was explained to management, and they decided to call off in a few months.

The point is to preape a document that we can do before arriving a consultant!

Thanks for your reply.
Normally, consultant should able to sit down with the process owners to document all the necessary documentation to comply with the API Spec. Q1 or Q2 , I have done a few projects for my clients including implementation training after we do the API Q1/ Q2 documentation.
If you need help I may assist you on this project.

elbek,

If your company is in business successfully fulfilling customer needs with its well drilling and workover services then it has already designed its drilling services.

Work with top management to understand what they did and how they interacted with stakeholders and each other to establish their drilling services company in broad terms so they could invest in the facilities, equipment, competencies to build their capability and reputation.

You may as well start with customer needs and end with cash in the bank. Then you’ll have a representation of their business management system (the one that actually delivers quality services). If you capture these facts with a deployment flowchart you’ll also determine the most important processes and their interactions.

Then take a break to list the key processes and rejoin to ask top management to nominate the most experienced person to own each process (spread the joy!).

One of these processes will focus on translating the needs of each customer into a service specification which is the basis for each drilling services contract. Work with the person who owns this process to capture how it actually works for each contract.

It may start with your website, receiving a request for a quote or a combination of the two. However it actually works be careful to capture as it is; not as anyone would like it to be. You are not producing a work of fiction.

Ask the process owner to walk around the deployment flowchart to determine its accuracy with other members of the process team. Make it bleed!

Their improvement ideas are listed separately and some can be implemented within two weeks but others need a system perspective and will feed into your system improvement process later.

You may already have done this with all the other processes that are vital to your company fulfilling its mission, answering such questions as:

1. Who is involved?
2. What is their shared objective?
3. What do they do to prevent problems?
4. How do they share information about the risks and how best to treat them?
5. Who does the work and what are their actions and interactions?
6. What is the result?

Copying someone else’s design process and just showing it to your colleagues may be taken as disrespect for their expertise and their system.

Respect what you are part of and seek to understand how your organization works as a system.

Best wishes,

John
