hello -- yes - there are integrated ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 already in place

Why not make energy consumption a significant environmental impact worthy of setting objectives and targets and investing in their fulfillment?

In other words treat ISO 50001 as supplementary requirements to those parts of your management system you and your colleagues use to fulfill the requirements of ISO 14001.

Because of the pandemic, the overwhelming majority of organizations saw a significant reduction in energy consumption in 2020; obviously very few of them had an Energy Management System in place. Energy consumption, in itself, can be a very misleading indicator. That's why ISO 50001 has the requirement for energy performance indicators.

Another issue: what is the source for the energy being procured? If you had to pay US$0.03 more for a kwh from a renewable source, instead of a coal-based power plant would you do it?

If you are specifying the procurement of production equipment, is energy efficiency of the device considered?

Those issues would be addressed by declaring fossil-fueled energy consumption an environmental aspect with a significant impact.

Naturally, the controls necessary to fulfill the corresponding objectives and targets would also influence the procurement of production equipment.

Morning All

The question Sidney ask is exactly why I am here. Until now the energy consumption was not a criteria for purchase. But as it is very big ISO requirement we are getting there. Clause 8.3 requires to set “criteria for evaluating energy performance over the planned or expected operating lifetime, when procuring energy using products, equipment and services which are expected to have a significant impact on the organization's energy performance.”
our consultant sent me example form from 50004 - here attached and off course that opened complains from manager "There is going to be a lot of information entered onto that form that will be of no use to anyone once it is written down and it will take a lot of effort to find some of that info out."

what do you guys use?
can someone please share what format works within your organization

thank you

One basically need to look at the efficiency of equipment in regards to energy consumption and answer a few questions Including:

How many hours a day the equipment will run
How many kWh will it use over that operating time
Figure your cost to operate based on current energy prices
What can be done to lower that cost thru changes in operation times, use of NEMA efficient motors, VSD, etc
Make sure the motor is the correct motor for what is being done
Make sure that PM is done - as most new equipment is running at about 70% efficiency due to PM not being done
