I believe a committee should be formed to explore creation of a guidance whitepaper on using the guidance document on how to use a guidance standard. Maybe the United Nations could get involved to help add clarity and discipline.....:tg:

Apparently ISO 26000 is undergoing a review and revision cycle, but some people don't want that to happen...

It seems that global political change and legislation advances way slower than ISO’s review cycles for standards.

I’d be interested in any reason given by AFNOR, ISO or any national standards body for ignoring this request.

BTW, It is good to see a guideline standard held in such high esteem.

Interesting comment, John. I feel exactly the opposite. The pace of change in the Business sector and Society at large is much faster (and accelerating always) than the static ISO protocols. Actually, in a connected world where change is a constant and becoming faster, compliance with a standard should not become an anchor, slowing business decisions. ISO better adapt or they will become irrelevant.

Business is faster and business management standards must keep pace in reflecting what is commonly accepted as good practice.

But we can see that ISO 26000 has become a sociopolitical standard where the global pace of change is usually glacial by comparison.

Such is the price of messing with global politics.

Perhaps ISO will dedicate this social responsibility standard for governments?

We could then incorporate the most important social responsibility requirements into our overarching management system standard.

Now that statement I agree with.

I wonder how many companies with ISO9001, AS9100, etc. certifications decide to use ISO 26000 in any way.

The ISO TMB shot down a vote for the creation of a Technical Committee on Social Responsibility, but it also decided to trigger a Strategic Advisory Group on ESG.

What exactly is "environmental, social, governance ecosystem" in plain English for those of us who don't speak ISO-ese well?
