Page 63 of the 4th edition PPAP manual shows PRODUC / PROCESS CHANGE NOTIFICATION, form THE-1002

Page 3 - CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION speaks to "...any planned changes to the design, process, or site.
NOTE. ......all changes to the part design and/or manufacturing process.

The "nightmates" are related to the tiered suppliers.
Some OEM representatives have indicated "ANY tier".
For example, if a raw material supplier changes the provider of a filler that goes in compounding a plastic compound that is used to make a plastic part, which then is assembled in a product that is used to make a steering column that goes into a VAP.
The change occured at the 4th tier; some OEM reps want to be notified.

Bill Ryan - 2007

I could certainly be incorrect:rolleyes: but since that form is in Appendix H, I take it as being specific to the Truck Industry.

Well, of course the OE should be notified. It doesn't matter at what tier a change is made, it still impacts the final product. The OE is selling the final product, and a change in filler could change some of the properties of the part. If poison is introduced to the food supply, wouldn't you want to know it? Or, would you say it happened at a sub-supplier, so it doesn't matter?

any tier

I keep on tellign my collegues that we should be following the shalls but I get resitence. They say were only tier 2 supplier. Is that any tier documented?

Also, it appears that the THE form is just for trucks. Is that corect , although it would be good no matter what. Actually some of the parts we make may go into parts but I dont have that information.

My managemnt has not entirely bought into the AIAG manuals.

It doesn't matter if they buy in or not. If you plan to continue to do business with the automotive industry,(excluding Toyota, Honda, etc.) the AIAG Manuals must be followed unless specified otherwise by your Customer Specific Requirements.

Which Manuals need followed?

I believe the PPAP manual is a reguirements document. ie. you are required to follow it,
the other manuals are for reference. ie. do not limit yourself to what is in the SPC manual. Difference approaches may fit your situation better.

When I was in training they said PPAP - requirement -- everything else -- reference.

Now - go to your customer specific requirements - GM, Ford, Daimler CX, and see what they say they require.

Go to the horses mouth!!

Isn't this fun?

Fun?

I have told people that it's extremely rigourus and if they think their floor job is stressful, they should walk a mile in a qc tech's shoes.

Still I wouldn't trade my job for anything. It's work, but that's what we get paid for; whether it is ford's 4 phase PPAP or DCX's 250 page novel.

Just keep looking ahead and remember that the customer is always right. (untill sales renotiates!)

Thanks hjilling;
Paid for the Overview webcast and frankly could spend the company's money in much better ways......like beers for the Department. :biglaugh: I wasn't very impressed with it. All I am looking for is an Excel or Word doc of the Truck PSW. Have a great weekend all...... I will be enjoying our wonderful BC sunshine!
Cheers!

Fully vaccinated are you?

So far the webcasts I've experienced have been lacking. I haven't done one with the AIAG people, but I've done a few others.

Hopefully someone here will have an .xls spreadsheet.
