Special Characteristics in old DFMEA vs new PFMEA

If you have a product with an older (2020) DFMEA and there are no changes, as I understand per the new the new AIAG-VDA FMEA guidelines we do not need to update this DFMEA. However, this leads me to these questions:
  1. If the PFMEA needs updating (as tends to happen when a process is changed), do we still need to identify special characteristics in the PFMEA for the new PFMEA? I ask because the new AIAG-VDA FMEA guidelines specifically do not require special characteristics for PFMEAs, but in this case the DFMEA is following the older format. Not sure which FMEA guidelines apply in this case.
  2. If we need to do small updates to the PFMEA (which is based on the old format DFMEA), do we need to update the PFMEA into the new format?
  3. if the older DFMEA is unchanged except, upon review, we determine the wrong special characteristics was marked, do we need to update the DFMEA to the new format or can we keep the old format?
Guidance much appreciated!

Not sure if i understood your case correctly- You have current program that is already launched and you want to move everything for Pfmea into new format? Does it make sence? there is no necessity to update current files into new standard.
In the Handbook there is recommendation about transition to new approach:
Special Characteristics in old DFMEA vs new PFMEA

As you may see- better to make it for NEW projects- and better to make it for simple pilot for the beginning - to understand if this approach is ok for YOur company and customer.

All CSR's that i saw, ( Stellantis, REnault, Ford, VW) repeating the main idea from handbook- old prokramms can be kept as is.
