Musk's tunnels idea

Partly, I feel its because he operates in a way others do not. He isn't afraid to fail, and uses failure as a teaching tool. He innovates quickly because of this. NASA may work years on a rocket, because red tape and funding mean they NEED to get it right the first time. SpaceX may have tested many in that same timeframe, learning as they go.

Not many people can afford to operate this way, and most would be afraid to if they could. My opinion.

I find that a lot of folks who are in positions like Musk, who are innovative in ways that others don't really consider, are usually heavily criticized. There have been two CEOs that I've worked with who were both kind of on another level with how they processed things and calculated risk, but their obsession made them successful. Musk is interested in continual improvement, even if the methods are risky.

I dunno, I think that it's interesting to see unfold. Maybe someday we'll have tubes all over the place, who knows! I'm sure 100 years ago they didn't think flight would be commercialized.

It wasn't very long ago that video chatting was a thing of science fiction...

Its these kind of ideas that change the world. In my fathers lifetime, he saw the evolution of the automobile (he still needed a horse to get to "town" in his early days), saw homes with electricity and running water become the norm, black and white TV (then color!), people landing on the moon, etc. My dad at 10 years old would not have been able to imagine what life would be like for my son at 10. Playing video games in real time with someone in Japan.

What do you think of it?
Why Elon's idea is criticised?

Is there a specific "tunnel idea" from the Boring Company or is there some general concept that is referred to as a "tunnel idea"?

I can easily imagine well-placed criticism for specific tunnels: hydrological factors for example.

Is his idea solving a problem that requires a solution? What is the problem statement?
