Approved Disinfecting agent in GMP

Javier Guan

Quality Manager
Hello EC Team,
I will appreciate if someone can advice which regulatory body or CFR clause provide details about approved or acceptable disinfecting agents for bathrooms (Inside GMP area) in tobacco cigars manufacturing. I reviewed 7 CFR 205.272, which is close but want to make sure it's the right regulation to follow. This company is in Dominican Republic, which make it harder to find same cleaning products. Would peracetic Acid acceptable and effective to clean bathrooms?

Thank you!

Hi,
I am not familiar with your specific regulatory requirements, but in general peracetic acid would be a good solution as it should fullfill the requirements of a high level disinfectant (as defined by CDC, but depends on the product formulation and characteristic; also its not a cleaner) while at the same time leaves (almost) no residues. Thus such products are often used in the food industry and the products are HACCP compliant and often have a corresponding certificate stating this. But if you really need to do a disinfection of the bathoroooms or if cleaning is sufficient is another aspect and I guess, regular cleaning with disinfection of the hand contact surfaces (usually this is done with alcohol based rapid dsinfectants) should be sufficient, except in case of infectious diarrhoe (Rota- or Norovirus infection), and disinfection of all surfaces could be done once a week or month, depending on your situation and risk evaluation. The latter being also the reason for doing Cleaning/disinfection.
